Why get a tutor?
Private tutoring can give your child an “edge” in their education, or address learning difficulties. Here are some reasons parents choose to get an English tutor.
Your child doesn’t fully understand what they read, which has caused low confidence in English.
They work extremely hard but are still not seeing the results they know they could achieve. They can’t put their finger on why their grades aren’t higher.
They struggle to begin an essay or experience writer’s block.
They need help understanding their teacher’s expectations.
They’re behind in their learning due to the pandemic.
The have learning difficulties or a lack of motivation which lead to avoidance and anxiety.

They’re taking the IB Diploma Programme and need help planning and practicing for their 4 IB assessments: the IO (Individual Oral), the Higher Level Essay, the Paper 1, and the Paper 2. Or, they are in grade 10 and want pre-exposure to the IB curriculum before next year.

Tutoring Services Available:
High School:
IB English for Grades 10, 11 & 12: I know the IB Literature and IB Language and Literature courses inside and out and can help your child get a higher result on all of their assessments, including the Individual Oral Internal Assessment, the Paper 1 exam, the Paper 2 exam, and the Higher Level Essay. I also support students on their TOK essay and Extended Essay if needed.
Grades 9-12 English: I support students with reading and analyzing novels or poetry, writing essays, improving writing skills, preparing and planning for public speaking or presentations, etc.
Middle School: Grades 6-8 reading, writing, and presenting skills, comprehension activities, academic discussions, analytical and persuasive writing skills, etc.
University Level: Essay writing & seminar planning and rehearsing.

Online tutoring: Via Google Meet.
In-person tutoring: Guelph, Ontario and surrounding areas.

One-Time Sessions
While most students prefer a weekly time (such as Tuesdays at 6pm or 8pm), some parents are looking for “emergency” support for their child when a big essay or presentation is approaching. In these cases, I would read the novel or material your child needs to learn, and meet with them for one or several hours at a time as needed. For instance, your child may have a due date tomorrow and needs support, so we could meet for one extended 4 hour session to complete the assignment together. Or, we could meet for two hours twice over two days, leaving them writing time in between. Anything is possible in terms of scheduling time to support your child.
PriceS:
High School & Older : $180 CAD per hour (Canadian, includes taxes). This includes the time it take between sessions to both read your child’s novels, and to read, grade, and prepare feedback for your child’s essays.
Middle School: $140 CAD per hour (Canadian, includes taxes).
Group sessions: Add $40 per hour for each additional student.
Offline Essay Editing or Feedback: $25 per page. Each hour of tutoring already includes the tutor providing feedback on one piece of work that is already being explored during tutoring sessions. However, if your child needs other assignments graded or edited (other than those assignments we’re already working on) the price is $25 per page, double-spaced, font size 12, Times New Roman or Arial font, and regular 1-inch margins.
Payment
Online sessions: Simply use the “Make a Payment” tab above to pay with credit or debit card.
Face to face sessions in Guelph & surrounding areas: Cash, or use the “Make a Payment” tab above to pay with credit/debit.
Payments are required before each session. However, for the first session, you may pay right after our first session.
