About Me

Meet Lauren, a Canadian certified English teacher with over a decade of classroom teaching and private tutoring experience. Let’s get your child feeling confident about English this year.

A Love of Teaching

I am a passionate, energetic, and rigorous teacher with twelve years of international and Canadian teaching experience. My style is to develop excellent relationships with students, and then to bring their interests into each lesson to make each day relaxed, fun, and engaging, while also bringing academic English alive for them.

Improving my students’ results is a top priority. I have seen the impact grades can have on their futures, but also on their self esteem and confidence as a person. The subject of English is also particularly relevant in their everyday lives as a teenager and later as an adult, so I view my work as meaningful not only at the assignment level, but also at the life skills level. Writing and presenting one’s analysis persuasively with a critical perspective is a non-negotiable skill in any profession, not only in English class. I believe in what I do because I see how much getting better at English can impact a student’s overall confidence to tackle exams, as well as the many challenges life presents after high school.

My Guarantees

  • I’ll Read…

…the novels your child has been assigned, as well as their notes, to ensure rich discussions and effective mentoring.

  • I’ll Contact…

…your child’s teachers if you’d like me to check on the expectations of assignments. I’m also available to parents any time for quick updates.

  • Writing Skills…

…are a one way ticket to confidence in any subject. I’ll teach academic writing skills such as adopting a formal writing tone, applying literary terminology, using higher-level vocabulary, embedding evidence, and editing thoroughly.

  • Reading Skills…

…such as summarizing, reflecting on, and discussing a text’s major characters, plot moments, and themes are crucial for your child’s success in English. I’ll teach your child how to annotate a text, take notes while reading, ask questions, and truly analyze an author’s purpose.

  • Sample essays…

…are often what make things “click” for students. Seeing what success looks like gives them a clear destination strive towards. I will embed sample assessments within our sessions, or model writing in front of your child to show them exactly how to work on specific skills. Then, your child will get the chance to try their hand at these skills, and we’ll use their teacher’s grading rubrics to ensure they’re addressing each expectation.

  • Homework…

…can be an effective way to solidify each session’s key skills. If you wish, I can set weekly homework tasks and check them the following week. (This is optional.)

Guaranteed improved results & confidence.
